  Chengjin Wang

  Assistant Professor, PhD, P.Eng.

  Dr. Wang is an assistant professor in Environmental Engineering. He studied water and wastewater treatment at Tongji University in Shanghai, completed his PhD at the University of Alberta in 2016, and held postdoctoral positions at the University of Toronto and the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station before joining the University of Manitoba in December 2021. He serves on the Early Career Boards of Environmental Science & Technology (ACS Publications) and the Journal of Environmental Engineering (ASCE).

  Duy Khen Tran

  PhD Student

  Khen holds a bachelor's degree in materials engineering from Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology in Vietnam, and a master's in environmental sciences from Hallym University in South Korea, where he developed catalysts for advanced oxidation in wastewater treatment. His research now applies advanced oxidation to a water quality monitoring device. Outside the lab he works out, cycles, and plays musical instruments.

  Chunyang Chen

  PhD Student

  Chunyang received her bachelor's degree in environmental science from Northeastern University in China, and her master's in environmental engineering from Tongji University. Her research is on micropollutant removal by advanced oxidation processes. Outside research she enjoys exploring cuisines and travelling.

  Fateme Mohamadi

  MSc Student

  Fateme holds a BSc and an MSc in chemical engineering from Iran, with a focus on wastewater treatment. Her research applies hydroxyl radical scavenging capacity to surface water monitoring, with the aim of detecting changes in water quality quickly and over large areas. Outside research she reads, plays video games, and watches films, science fiction especially.

  Mateo Molina

  MSc Student

  Mateo studied biotechnology engineering in Ecuador, where his bachelor's thesis was on synthesising photocatalytic nanomaterials to remove emerging pollutants from water. His research now looks at easing the fouling of nanofiltration membranes treating water high in organic matter and hardness, using oxidation as a pre-treatment before filtration. Outside the lab he hikes, bikes, and is still looking for a mountain in flat Winnipeg.

  Jasmine DeCaire

  Jasmine is an undergraduate student in Civil Engineering at the University of Manitoba. Her research examines how hydroxyl radical scavenging capacity relates to other water quality parameters, including pH, total organic carbon, UV254 absorbance, and chlorine demand.
